Pros:
Spiralize your vegetables with ease. In order to cut your fruit or vegetables, it is as simple as these three steps. Plug your vegetable onto the prongs and ensure it is secure. Begin turning the gear while pushing the vegetable towards the slicing blades. Collect the spiralized vegetables in a bowl and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Construction of the Paderno Spiralizer is top notch. With this spiralizer, you will receive three different stainless steel cutting blades. You can cut thin strands (spaghetti), thick strands (great crunch), and ribbon strands (for potatoes). The spiralizer itself is made of a BPA-free plastic substance that holds up well. In order to keep the spiralizer from sliding all over the counter, 4 suction cups are placed on the bottom of the device to keep it firmly planted. Finally, this Tri-Blade spiralizer is completely hand powered, no batteries or electric outlet required.
Making raw vegan alternatives to pasta noodles is a great choice for your health. One of the things people always tell me they miss when they decide to reduce refined carb consumption are pasta dishes. Vegetarian spaghetti with wheat noodles was a staple in my home while growing up. It was my favorite dish when my mother would make a homemade tomato sauce that was rich with eggplant and basil. Since going vegan though, I have cut out refined carbohydrates. It was not until I discovered spiralizers that I began eating pasta on a regular basis once again. Instead of wheat noodles though, I am eating healthy, raw vegetables.
My favorite things to spiralize in order are:
- Zucchini - These are the standard noodles now used in our house. Taste great and great for you. Plus, Zucchini is so cheap it is crazy. I also like to grow my own Zucchini.
- Carrots - Using a shredder to cut up Carrots is a pain. Spiralizing the Carrots is easier if making large batches of Carrot shreds at a time. Carrot goes great in oatmeal.
- Apples - Apple strands are just awesome. Kids absolutely love them. Feed a kid Apple slices, they will love them. Now, give them Apple strands and they will go crazy.
- Sweet Potato - I love Sweet Potato ribbons. I do not fry them or make any sort of fries. Rather, I also like adding Sweet Potato ribbons to my oatmeal just like the Carrots.
Cons:
Cleanup can be a bit of work. First things first, you will need to clean the blades well. You can wash them in the dishwasher and it usually works just fine. However, I would advise using a vegetable scrubber before throwing them in the dishwasher to wipe away any micro shreds from the blades. Second. you will need to clean the plug where the vegetables are attached in order to prevent any crumbs there. Once again, the vegetable scrubber works well. Finally, wipe down the Paderno Spiralizer each time with a paper towel or cloth with soapy water wherever a mess or vegetable/fruit juices may have dripped. The entire spiralizer can be disassembled and washed in the dishwasher without the blades being attached. I do not think this is necessary with each use if you follow the steps above, but I would recommend doing so for a full item cleaning.
Be careful when collecting your spiralized foods. It can almost seem random at times as to how the items choose to exit the spiralizing blades. Be sure to have a collection bowl right after the blades, that will be where most of the strands end up going. However, you will likely run into a situation where some strands spill onto the counter. This can be a pain with a really staining vegetable like beets.

Value for money?
Value for money?
The Paderno Tri-Blade Spiralizer is a great buy for the money. For less than $40, you can unleash an effective tool in your kitchen that will spiralize just about anything. Of course there will come to be staple vegetables and fruits you use in your kitchen for the spiralizer. Cutting vegetables into spirals or strands with a knife is a pain in the butt and dangerous. For anyone wanting to eliminate wheat pasta from the diet, raw vegan pasta choices are a fantastic replacement. Paderno delivers a product that will last a long time and work dependently the entire time.
