Aroma 6-Cup Rice Cooker and Food Steamer Review

Product Review: Aroma 6-Cup Rice Cooker

Price Range: $15-$25

Features:
  • One Low Price. Next to no risk for owning this device.
  • White and Brown Rice. Prepare your favorite kind of rice.
  • Perfect for Daily Use. Simple and quick to make a daily meal.
  • Cleanup is a breeze. Nonstick interior of cooking pot.
Pros:

Making rice on a daily basis should not be a pain. Too many people choose to not eat rice because it is a pain to make on the range day in and day out. Little do they know how much they are missing out. Rice is packed with fiber, fills the belly while keeping you slim, and is the perfect side dish.

Cooking with the Aroma 6-Cup Rice Cooker is as simple as flipping a switch. Load the selected rice into the Aroma Cooking Pot, add a measured amount of water proportional to the rice, place the steam lid over the pot, and flip the switch. In no less than thirty-five minutes will your rice be done, whether it is white rice or brown rice.

Don't have a full kitchen? It doesn't matter. This Aroma Rice Cooker takes up only a fraction of the counter. Live in a dorm? This rice cooker will work just fine in a dormitory if appliances that produce steam are allowed. Have to travel in a car and stay overnight at hotels? No matter, this rice cooker packs easily and can be used to make healthy meals on the road.

Make more than just rice with the steam tray. Vegans rejoice, we can eat a full meal with so little work thanks to this nifty little device. Steam vegetables to add to the top of the rice: asparagus, carrots, and broccoli all come out soft and moist after the steaming process. Want a bit of spice or sweetness with the rice? Steam onions in the steaming tray to really liven up the dish.

Spending over $100 on a high-quality rice cooker is such a risk. For less than $20 you will find a ready to use rice cooker. This makes it perfect for anyone just getting into the world of rice cooking. If you have a family member or friend interested in eating healthy and whole foods, an introductory rice cooker is one of the best introductions to a healthy diet. Take next to no risk with an appliance that costs so little.

Cleanup is no major concern. After all, you just need to clean up the stainless steel pot after cooking the rice. Also, you may need to wipe off the steam lid after the rice cooking process as boiling water may spatter the lid. Otherwise, rinsing out the stainless steel pot in the sink, and then placing the pot in the dishwasher should take care of your needs.

Cons:

Don't expect to feed a family of four with this device. The Aroma 6-Cup Rice Cooker is small. Cooking for one, or maybe two people will be fine; however, a full family will be too much. Perhaps you could scooch by with just a small serving of rice for each family member, but it will simply not be enough to satisfy a hungry belly.

Occasional messes can happen due to the boiling water spattering against the top and coming out of the steam vent. In order to clean this up, keep a dish rag around the rice cooker in order to wipe up any mess that may have come up.

Aroma 6-Cup Cooker vs. Aroma 8-Cup Cooker

Price:

  • The Aroma 8-Cup Rice Cooker will cost you nearly twice as much money. While both Rice Cookers are a fantastic deal, only one of these appliances ends up coming in at under $20. Remember though, you get what you pay for.
Design:
  • I prefer the design of the Aroma 8-Cup Rice Cooker. Between the two, the Aroma 8-Cup definitely looks a whole lot more attractive in the kitchen. Even though the price difference is small, the Aroma 6-Cup Rice Cooker looks cheaper than the Aroma 8-Cup.
Functions:
  • More is to be found in the Aroma 8-Cup Rice Cooker. If all you want is a rice cooker that can cook both brown and white rice, both machines will work. However, if you want to cook a decent amount of rice at a time, make somewhat more complex dishes than rice, or get a better overall cook, the Aroma 8-Cup Rice Cooker comes out as the winner.
Overall:
  •  Aroma made two worthy machines here, but the upgrade to the Aroma 8-Cup Rice Cooker is well worth the money. While the Aroma 6-Cup Rice Cooker does a fine job cooking rice, it fails to meet all of the features of the Aroma 8-Cup.

Value for Money?

Making rice on a budget should be done with a machine like the Aroma 6-Cup Rice Cooker. Whether you want to save money, eat healthy, or simply like eating rice, the Aroma Rice Cooker will make for a welcome addition to the kitchen. Serious rice connoisseurs should consider a higher quality machine, but the beginner will find the Aroma 6-Cup a welcome addition. Overall, I give the Aroma 6-Cup Rice Cooker 3/5 stars.

Aroma Digital Rice Cooker Measurements: White and Brown Rice

Want a quick reference guide on a Rice:Water ratio for the Aroma Digital Rice Cooker? Look below for quick reference:

Rice Cookers FAQRice Cookers FAQ

Based on this info, we know white rice and brown rice differ quite a bit.

White rice will require less time and less water to cook. Luckily enough, the Aroma Digital Rice Cooker includes automated cooking functions. This basically leaves proper measuring of rice to water as the sole job to get done.

Brown rice is going to need a bit more water and more time to cook. Don't be turned off of cooking brown rice though, an automated cooking of brown rice is also an option. Just measure the right brown rice to water, and let the machine cook the food itself.

As a rough rule of thumb, use an extra cup of water for the total normally used for white rice when cooking brown rice. Also, expect brown rice to take nearly twice as long to cook than white rice.

Aroma provides a measuring cup with this rice cooker. Also, the cooking pot is lined with measurement totals, making the whole task of proportioning water to rice a simple affair.

Never have a mess on your hands again. Undercooked and soggy rice will be things of the past with proper measurements and diligence.

Steaming Vegetables in the Aroma Digital Rice Cooker

Most of us solely use our rice cookers to make rice. What we fail to realize is that the steam that rises from the cooking rice can be harnessed to cook vegetables.

Who doesn't love a nice plate of steam vegetables and rice? With steamed vegetables we get both a powerhouse of nutrients, and added flavor to a rice dish.

However, most rice cookers are not designed for this steaming task. With the Aroma Digital Rice Cooker though, a plastic steaming tray is included with the rice cooker.

All it takes to steam vegetables in the Aroma is simply placing vegetables in the plastic tray. It is truly that simple. While cooking the rice you can steam the vegetables. Along with that, a steam function is included with the Aroma Rice Cooker.

Here is What I have Been Able to Steam So Far:
  • Diced Potatoes
  • Bunch of Asparagus
  • Bag of Baby Carrots
  • Bunch of Kale

  • Brussels Sprouts
All in all, I have found the Aroma to be great for steaming leafy green vegetables, harder vegetables like carrots and potatoes, and asparagus.

Be aware though, the steaming tray will not be able to make a ton of food at any one time. In my own case though, I have been able to steam more than enough vegetables for up to three people when eating a pairing of vegetables and rice.

Cleanup of the Aroma and the steaming tray is an easy task. For the steaming tray, be sure to wipe it off with a rag or paper towel after use, then throw it in the dishwasher. Same applies to the Aroma cooking pot.

Aroma Sensor Logic Rice Cooker Review

Features:
  • Non-Stick Cooking Pot
  • Multiple Programmed Cooking Functions
  • Able to Steam Vegetables While Cooking Rice
Pros:

Cook all kinds of food in one of Aroma's most advanced rice cookers to date. Of course Aroma designed this machine to cook primarily white and brown rice, but a wealth of options exist. With the steam rack, cook all kinds of vegetables that can be paired with the rice dish like broccoli, leafy greens, and sweet potatoes. Beyond rice, cook things like oatmeal, quinoa, grits, and boiled potatoes within the cooking pot.

Rice cooking could not be made easier than what Aroma offers here. Three pre-set functions exist to choose between 'White Rice', 'Brown Rice', and 'Quick Rice'. Press whichever button corresponds to your rice type and do not worry about keeping track of cooking times. Aroma includes a table of measurements for rice:water ratios in the instruction manual so the information will always be readily available on hand.

Aroma's new Saute-then-Simmer technology makes cooking non-rice dishes all the better. The sensor logic within the rice cooker detects when to drop and raise the cooking temperature based off the heat readings within the cooking pan. This prevents a blind heating of the food which may cause the food to dry out or to stick to the bottom of the pan. For dishes like potatoes or oatmeal, this is especially nice as they do cook differently than rice, and the machine accurately changes the cooking temperature to prevent problems from arising.

This rice cooker exists for convenience of the household. Aroma includes a 15 Hour Delay Timer which allows for you to program when the rice should begin cooking at nearly anytime during the waking day. After the rice completes the cooking cycle, the machine switches to the 'Keep Warm' function so that the rice will remain hot until being served.

Cleanup involves simply rinsing the cooking pot out in the dishwasher after all the rice has been eaten, and then throwing it in the dishwasher. With its non-stick surface, rice sticking to the cooking pot will never be a serious problem.

Cons:

You will encounter starchy overspills if incorrect proportions to rice:water are cooked. The Aroma Sensor Logic Rice Cooker has a vent right above the cooking pot, and messes can occur out of this vent. In order to prevent this from happening, you will need to be sure that correct measurements of both rice and water are being used. As an extra bit of insurance, I place a plate under Aroma Rice Cookers to catch any overspill so it does not make a mess on my counter.

Guarantee:

Aroma offers a two year warranty on the rice cooker in order to repair any damaged or broken portions of the rice cooker. Information on how to contact Aroma is provided in the instruction manual and can also be found online through Aroma's website.

The Amazon A-Z Guarantee is the best guarantee in the market. Value for Money?

Whole there may be a few problems with measuring correct proportions for this Rice Cooker, it does the core of its job well. Along with cooking rice perfectly, the Aroma Rice Cooker's internal heat sensor makes a good tool for cooking all kinds of one pot meals. Overall, I give the Aroma Sensor Logic Rice Cooker a total of 3/5 stars.

Aroma Simply Stainless Rice Cooker Review

Product Review: Aroma Simply Stainless Rice Cooker

Price Range: $35-$50

Discount: Save at Amazon

Features:

  • Models Range from 6 Cups to 20 Cups
  • Cooking Pot is Made from Stainless Steel
  • Functions of 'Cook' and 'Keep Warm'
Pros:

Enjoy cooking rice in a stainless steel pot for an affordable price. Stainless steel cookware works great due to the simplicity of cleaning it, its attractive appearance, and heat conductive properties. However, the problem with stainless steel and kitchen appliances is that you often have to pay primo bucks to get it. With the Aroma Simply Stainless Rice Cooker, you can get the stainless steel for less than $50.

Cook white, jasmine, brown, and just about any kind of rice you can think of with this machine. Beyond rice, you can cook things like quinoa, oatmeal, and buckwheat in the Aroma Rice Cooker. While the rice Simply Stainless Rice Cooker only comes with one cooking mode, instructions are included on how to cook varying kinds of things.

Aroma really did a great job making a cooking pot without Teflon. After witnessing issues with the non-stick coating in other models of Aroma Rice Cookers, I became a bit disappointed with Aroma. With a stainless steel cooking pot, there are no issues at all with any sort of chemicals flaking off onto your food. Some people say you need to put olive oil on your cooking pot to prevent sticking, but I have never had a serious problem of rice sticking with stainless steel.

Set it and forget it when it comes to making rice. Simply flip the switch to the 'Cook' setting when the proper ratio to rice and water is in the rice cooker. The Aroma Simply Rice Cooker will boil and simmer your rice for about an hour. When it is done cooking, it will automatically flip to the 'Keep Warm' setting. Come back to enjoy a warm bowl of rice when ready for the meal.

Cons:

Starchy overflow can happen. If you either overload too much rice into the Aroma Rice Cooker, or if you put too much water into it, you will have a mess on your hands. In order to prevent this, the best thing to do is to always put proper measurements of grain:water in the Rice Cooker. This is not always possible, so I have found it best to keep a plate under the Aroma Cooker so as to catch any mess that may overflow.

Aroma's Rice Cooker will get the job done and leave an easy cleanup of the stainless steel pot after the cooking process. This makes it a good choice for anyone looking for an inexpensive rice cooker. Overall, I give the Aroma Simply Stainless Rice Cooker 3/5 stars.

Aroma Digital Rice Cooker and Food Steamer Review

Price Range: $29-$37

Discount: Save Money at Amazon

Features:
  • Non-stick Cooking Pot
  • Programmed Rice Cooking Settings
  • Easy Cleanup in Sink or Dishwasher

Pros:

Have you ever cooked rice on the stove top? Oftentimes this is a messy and time consuming experience in order to prepare a food as simple as rice. With the Aroma Digital Rice Cooker and Food Steamer cooking rice is as simple as adding rice and water to the Aroma pot, hitting a button, and leaving the kitchen until the rice cooker beeps to announce the rice is fully cooked. Nothing could be more simple than leaving an uncooked bowl of rice on the kitchen counter in the Aroma Rice Cooker and returning in less than two hours to a steaming hot perfect bowl of rice or steamed vegetables.

Many think rice cooking is the simplest task in the world that should require nothing more than a stove top and a pot. However, the market for rice cookers is extremely diverse with a world of products. From the Zojirushi brand of rice cookers that retail for hundreds of dollars a piece to the old pan sitting around in everyone's kitchen, the options seem clouded and endless. With the Rice Cooker and Food Steamer by Aroma anyone can afford an electronic rice cooker due to the reasonable price offered. Sold on Amazon.com for less than $40, the price required for this rice cooker is more than made up within a few months of preparing rice for an evening meal instead of going out to eat.

More than just rice can be cooked in The Aroma Rice Cooker and Food Steamer. The product clearly allows for white rice, brown rice, and steam food option as shown by the preprogrammed buttons set to perfect these foods in each cooking. However, the limits of what can be cooked in the Aroma are only limited to the creativity of the cook in the kitchen. Oatmeal is prepared in a jiff by using the white rice function. Presoaked beans cook perfectly on the brown rice function. Vegetables including potatoes cook up well on the steaming rack. To cook even more potatoes for a fuller meal, boiling the potatoes on the white rice function yields tender potatoes ready to eat in less than an hour.

From 2 to 8 cups of rice can be cooked in this model, and learning the proportions of water to any amount of rice is easy. The tables below show the cooking times one could expect for rice and the water needed for the rice:

Rice Cookers FAQRice Cookers FAQ

Clean up is simple with the aluminum non-stick pot used in the Aroma Rice Cooker. After finishing a meal, simply use a soapy sponge and hot water to wipe out any left over remains of the meal. Along with cleaning the inside of the pot, be sure to wipe off the steam protection lid after a meal as well.

Cons:

Occasional starchy overspilling is the greatest problem of the Rice Cooker and Steamer made by Aroma. This tends to happen if too much water is in the Aroma pot or if there is too much food trying to be cooked. By always measuring properly this can be corrected, and tends to never come up as the cook learns the in's and out's of the Aroma cooker. In order to not be bothered by a starchy mess, place a large plate underneath the rice cooker so that any spillover flows onto the plate and not onto the counter top.
