Something Fishy Is Going on With Spiral Slicers

After doing a bit of research on spiral slicers (or handheld spiralizers), I came across some odd finds on Amazon.Com. It appears that the world of spiral slicers is coming to be dominated by Chinese knockoffs of the famous GEFU Spiral Slicer Brand. Below are my results:

1. Kinbar Spiral Slicer
Kinbar
GEFU

Currently, this spiral slicer is enjoying a fair bit
of popularity. However, notice that these spiralizers look the exact same!

Home Chef
Reviews for the Kinbar are mixed. Some people do comment that it is an okay spiralizer, but others denounce it as a piece of junk. Furthermore, it is obvious that many of these product reviews are from fake accounts as shown by their poor skills with English grammar.

2. Home Chef Spiral Slicer

Once again, this product looks exactly the same as GEFU.

Just like Kinbar, the 5/5 positive reviews are fakes. That does not stop Amazon from selling the product though.

3. About 4 Other Designs Copy GEFU

Be aweare mainly of Home Chef and Kinbar. They promise a great spiral cutting experience, but their products are merely a cheap imitation. Beyond these two brands, be highly suspect of anything that basically looks like GEFU's design.

4. Dark Truth about GEFU

Some customers buying GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicers at Amazon.com report that that they received a fake Chinese knockoff. This problem could be potentially worse than just copycat products. If low quality fakes re being sold in place of the most respected spiral cutter on the market, we could be in for some tough times.

Conclusion

My advice is to buy GEFU Spiral Slicers from only trusted merchants on Amazon. Do not buy from merchants with low seller rating scores, nor buy from merchants that have just launched.

My review of the GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicer

Is the Veggetti Spiral Slicer a Scam?

Most people worry about whether or not 'As Seen on TV' products are scams or not. With the release of the Veggetti, many now wonder if the claims made in the commercial are too good to be true. Below, I will run through the reality of the Vegetti.

1. Is the Veggetti Commercial Lying?

Since most people are introduced to this product through the commercial, we should address whether or not it is truthful. From my perspective, the commercial is perfectly truthful in what it claims.

What is mainly being sold is a kitchen gadget that will spiralize zucchinis. They do not deviate from this idea too much, they simply show how much better of an idea it is to eat raw vegetable pasta versus bleached white flour pasta.

2. Will the Veggetti Actually Cut Vegetables?

Yes, the Veggetti will actually cut through your vegetables. Now, the Veggetti does not make picture perfect strands out of the things being cut. The thin/angel hair pasta setting will make a bit of a mess out of what is being cut. The thicker cut setting does a much better job at making pleasant looking strands.

The Veggetti is primarily designed to handle the softer fruits and vegetables. Zucchini gets cut through with ease. Now, things like potatoes are much harder to cut through.

3. Is the Veggetti Worth the Price?

For a spiralizer, the Veggetti is actually one of the lowest priced on the market. If you are only wanting to spiralize zucchini, it is a reasonable purchase to make.

Here is my review and take on the Veggetti.

4. Are there Better Alternatives?

Yes, most definitely. All spiralizers are relatively inexpensive, so price differences should not be a huge deal. Before buying a Veggetti I would recommend a few different products.

For a handheld spiralizer, I think the GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicer is much nicer.

In terms of the absolute best spiralizer, I would recommend going with a counter top model. For that, I would have to say the Tri-Blade Vegetable Slicer by Spiralizer is the absolute best choice to make.

Veggetti Spiral Vegetable Cutter Review

Product Review: Veggetti Spiral Vegetable Cutter

Company: Amazon via seller Veggetti

Price Range: $15-$20

Features:
  • Easy To Hold and Handle
  • Stores in Minimal Space
  • Dual Stainless Steel Cutting Blades
Pros:

For anyone looking for an inexpensive spiralizer the Veggetti Spiral Vegetable Cutter will make a great addition to the kitchen. Whether you are looking to make raw pasta, prepare stir fry ingredients, or looking to simply cut vegetables into strands, the Veggetti gets the job done.

Veggetti's main claim is that it can spiralizer your zucchinis into thin strands, and it fulfills this promise. Cutting a zucchini goes by easily enough. Simply hold the zucchini in one hand and push upwards toward the spiralizer; with the other hand, twist clockwise as strands of zucchini spirals spill forth.

Since this device can be held in the palm of your hand, it stores in just about any space. One of the main issues with counter top spiralizers is the space requirement they have. No such issue arise with the Veggetti, place it in a drawer with the rest of the kitchen gadgets after cleaning with no worries at all.

Cons:

Cleanup can be tough. Cleaning most spiralizers is a relatively simple process, but Veggetti seems to just be a bigger pain for some reason. Rinsing it off in the sink with warm, soap water may not always be enough. There may be small bits of veg left on the device, so a run through in the dishwasher on the top rack may be necessary.

Please realize this is one of the lowest priced spiralizers on the market. As such, the quality of this tool is lower than a GEFU Spiral Slicer. While it may not be as attractive or as functional as the GEFU, it still fulfills the basic job of spirlalizing vegetables.
Guarantee:

The Amazon A-Z Guarantee is the best guarantee in the market. In the event that the product is not delivered, delivered in a broken condition, or is not meeting the quality expectations of the buyer, the item may be returned to Amazon for a full refund. A 30 day window exists to file a claim to Amazon over any problem that may come up with the product.

Value for money?

The Veggetti Spiral Vegetable Cutter gets the job done for one low price. While competitors on the market may be of higher quality and more attractive to look at, the Veggetti will slice through zucchinis just like any spiral slicer. Overall, I would give this product 3/5 Stars.

What Voltage Do Spiralizers Need? 110V or 220V?

NONE

All your spiralizer needs is a bit of self driven human power. No electricity required.

Countertop Spiralizers
If using a countertop spiralizer, you will need to twist the handle to spiralize the vegetables.

There are absolutely no electric cords required for these spiralizers. In fact, I have been unable to find any sort of countertop spiralizer that can be ran with electricity. Strictly speaking, it is simply too difficult to imagine how electricity would be at all useful. You want these spiralizers to stop on a dime.

Handheld Spiralizers

These spiralizers are the simplest to use. Once again, no electricity is at all required. No batteries, just simple arm power required.

For these kinds of spiralizers, you will just hold the spiralizer and twist the vegetables into the blades. Pretty simple, nothing at all complicated.

There seems that no form of electronic handheld spiral cutter exists on the market, it would be too niche.

Julienne Peelers

This should be obvious, the Julienne Peelers are powered entirely by human power alone.

Scrape down with the Julienne Peeler and watch as the spiral shreds fall off the vegetables. Super simple and easy to use.

Conclusion

No spiralizer on the market seems to be an electronic device. If you want to eat spiralized veggies, get ready to do some work!

GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicer Review

Product Review:  GEFU Spiral Slicer

Company: Amazon via seller GEFU

Price Range: $25-$35

Discount: Save Money at Amazon.com

Features:
  • Stainless Steel Blades
  • Nice and Attractive Design
  • Safe to Operate
Pros:

Simply and quickly spiralize a wide variety of vegetables with the GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicer. All that is required is a vegetable in one hand, the GEFU in the other, and a twist of the spiralizer. Voila, perfectly cut strips of whatever vegetable that was ran through the spiralizer. Powered purely by manual twisting, the needs of this GEFU device are minimal and is ready to go right out of the box.

Save space when compared to a counter top spiralizer. There exists no need to dedicate valuable counter or cabinet space to a device that may not be used too often. With the GEFU Spiral Slicer, all you need is a tiny amount of free space of a drawer in the kitchen. Along with not taking up much space on the counter, the tool fits in the palm of your hand. Far simpler than a counter top spiralizer that requires a fairly complex amount of coordination.

Spiralize your favorite vegetables into raw pastas. Even though the GEFU Spiralizer is quite small, cutting your favorite vegetables is still entirely possible. Classics like zucchinis and carrots are cut with ease. Even larger things like potatoes and sweet potatoes are quick to cut into ribbons for all sorts of gourmet purposes in the kitchen. Yellow summer squash of course comes out great. Even the rarely seen parsnips come out just perfectly.

Cleanup is super fast. As you would expect from such a small device, washing the GEFU can be done entirely in the sink with warm and soapy water. There really exists no need to run this item through the dishwasher as it can be so quickly washed off after use. Compared to the cleanup needed for a counter top spiralizer, these handheld spiralizers need only a fraction of the time.

Cons:

Bulk spiralizing can get tiring. If you are used to spiralizing four or more vegetables at one time, it can become difficult to spiralize anything more. You may get a hand cramp, your arm may simply get tired, or you just may be bored of doing the motion. Counter top spiralizers can glide through eight zucchinis in the time it would take to do four zucchinis with the GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicer.

The GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicer makes for a dependable choice for anyone wanting to spiralize vegetables for the first time. Prices for a spirzalizer are almost all entirely the same whether they be handheld or counter top. GEFU is great for anyone specifically seeking a handheld slicer. Blades are sharp, the model looks well built for anyone looking on, and it is easy to cleanup after use.

Paderno World Cuisine Tri-Blade Spiral Vegetable Slicer

Product Review: Paderno World Cuisine Tri-Blade Spiral Vegetable Slicer

Company: Amazon via seller Paderno World Cuisine

Price Range: $35-$50

Pros:

Spiralize your vegetables with ease. In order to cut your fruit or vegetables, it is as simple as these three steps. Plug your vegetable onto the prongs and ensure it is secure. Begin turning the gear while pushing the vegetable towards the slicing blades. Collect the spiralized vegetables in a bowl and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Construction of the Paderno Spiralizer is top notch. With this spiralizer, you will receive three different stainless steel cutting blades. You can cut thin strands (spaghetti), thick strands (great crunch), and ribbon strands (for potatoes). The spiralizer itself is made of a BPA-free plastic substance that holds up well. In order to keep the spiralizer from sliding all over the counter, 4 suction cups are placed on the bottom of the device to keep it firmly planted. Finally, this Tri-Blade spiralizer is completely hand powered, no batteries or electric outlet required.

Making raw vegan alternatives to pasta noodles is a great choice for your health. One of the things people always tell me they miss when they decide to reduce refined carb consumption are pasta dishes. Vegetarian spaghetti with wheat noodles was a staple in my home while growing up. It was my favorite dish when my mother would make a homemade tomato sauce that was rich with eggplant and basil. Since going vegan though, I have cut out refined carbohydrates. It was not until I discovered spiralizers that I began eating pasta on a regular basis once again. Instead of wheat noodles though, I am eating healthy, raw vegetables.

My favorite things to spiralize in order are:
  1. Zucchini - These are the standard noodles now used in our house. Taste great and great for you. Plus, Zucchini is so cheap it is crazy. I also like to grow my own Zucchini.
  2. Carrots - Using a shredder to cut up Carrots is a pain. Spiralizing the Carrots is easier if making large batches of Carrot shreds at a time. Carrot goes great in oatmeal.
  3. Apples - Apple strands are just awesome. Kids absolutely love them. Feed a kid Apple slices, they will love them. Now, give them Apple strands and they will go crazy.
  4. Sweet Potato - I love Sweet Potato ribbons. I do not fry them or make any sort of fries. Rather, I also like adding Sweet Potato ribbons to my oatmeal just like the Carrots.
Cons:

Cleanup can be a bit of work. First things first, you will need to clean the blades well. You can wash them in the dishwasher and it usually works just fine. However, I would advise using a vegetable scrubber before throwing them in the dishwasher to wipe away any micro shreds from the blades. Second. you will need to clean the plug where the vegetables are attached in order to prevent any crumbs there. Once again, the vegetable scrubber works well. Finally, wipe down the Paderno Spiralizer each time with a paper towel or cloth with soapy water wherever a mess or vegetable/fruit juices may have dripped. The entire spiralizer can be disassembled and washed in the dishwasher without the blades being attached. I do not think this is necessary with each use if you follow the steps above, but I would recommend doing so for a full item cleaning.

Be careful when collecting your spiralized foods. It can almost seem random at times as to how the items choose to exit the spiralizing blades. Be sure to have a collection bowl right after the blades, that will be where most of the strands end up going. However, you will likely run into a situation where some strands spill onto the counter. This can be a pain with a really staining vegetable like beets.

Guarantee:

Paderno World Cuisine provides a 1 year warranty on their product should any malfunction come up as a result of the manufacturing.

The Paderno Tri-Blade Spiralizer is a great buy for the money. For less than $40, you can unleash an effective tool in your kitchen that will spiralize just about anything. Of course there will come to be staple vegetables and fruits you use in your kitchen for the spiralizer. Cutting vegetables into spirals or strands with a knife is a pain in the butt and dangerous. For anyone wanting to eliminate wheat pasta from the diet, raw vegan pasta choices are a fantastic replacement. Paderno delivers a product that will last a long time and work dependently the entire time.

Tri-blade Vegetable Slicer By Spiralizer Review

Product Review: Tri-blade Vegetable Slicer By Spiralizer

Company: Amazon via seller Spiralizer

Price Range: $35-$45

Features:
  • BPA-Free Plastic
  • Heavy Duty Construction
  • Japanese Stainless Steel Blades
Pros:

Heavy duty construction that keep it firmly placed upon the counter top. Nothing frustrates me more in the kitchen than working with flimsy plastic equipment that can barely process the needs I have without shaking all about the kitchen. This is especially a problem in Spiralizing equipment as the cook is using a good deal of energy while spinning the vegetable to be spiralized. No such problem exists with the Tri-blade Vegetable Slicer By Spiralizer thanks to be 30% more sturdy than its competition.

Spiralizing vegetables is criminally underused in the vegan kitchen. Spaghetti is a staple in the American diet, and can easily be adapted for the vegan diet. However, spaghetti dishes even for vegans tend to be unhealthy having the pasta being made of white flour, loaded down with olive oil, and smothered in salty sauce. Replacing the blandness of spaghetti noodles with raw vegetables will yield a 1000% improvement in taste. No longer will the dish have to be drowned in an oily and salty mess. Flavors of raw vegetables will shine through and provide a meal experience based on pleasure, rather than stuffing a belly to capacity with a hot meal.

For raw vegans, the Tri-blade Vegetable Slicer by Spiralizer is an absolute necessity. Monomeals are great on a raw vegan diet, but dishes more 'traditional' are needed on several occasions. 99.9% of the United States population will not understand a raw vegan diet, and a raw vegan should never compromise on diet in order to fit in. When a situation comes up for a raw vegan needing to feed others or providing an exciting dish to a dinner party, nothing works as well as a plate of raw zucchini pasta. Besides providing something incredibly tasty, everyone will want to see the raw version of spaghetti. Nobody will leave disappointed, not even the young kids who live off candy and McDonald's.

Zucchini is always dirt cheap when buying conventionally grown produce, it is also super cheap at Farmer's Markets and at organic food stores. The best source of zucchini, and any vegetables, will be the backyard garden though. As any gardener knows, zucchini is just about one of the easiest plants to grow during the Summer, and it always gives out tons of zukes. Eating all of the produce grown has been the traditional problem of gardeners growing the zucchini plant. With the Tri-blade Vegetable Slicer By Spiralizer, the home gardner will now be wanting to plant more zucchini plants in order to spiralize a side of pasta at dinner every night. Perfect when paired with home grown tomatoes that can turned into a fresh sauce.

Cons:

My biggest problem is with the end of the spiralizer. After cutting the vegetable up, it will just fall off onto the end of the product. It can flow into a bowl if one is placed at the end and this is the best solution to do as catching your product for whatever you have planned for the vegetable noodles is best. It is just that some always seems to get stuck onto the plastic part.

Be very careful when cutting things like beets. Juice will be leaking out of the beet like crazy. This juice is dark red and can look a little like blood when dried. Be sure to clean the Tri-blade Vegetable Slicer quite well. Even with the heavy duty design on this model Spiralizer made, it can be maneuvered easily during clean up. Also, if you eat raw beetroot, be aware that you will be noticing some red in the toilet bowl over the next 24 hours. Do not be alarmed, this will be due to the pigments found within the beet, and will have little chance of being blood.

Guarantee:

Spiralizer offers a "Risk Free" 3 year warranty on their product if any problem comes up. They claim it is a "No Questions Asked" policy, so it covers everything and anything that may come up while owning the Tri-blade Vegetable Slicer in the 3 year time frame.

The Tri-blade Vegetable Slicer By Spiralizer is a huge deal for the money. Unlike most similar products on the market, Spiralizer did not go out and make a cheap piece of plastic to be put under the counter and forgotten. Daily use of this tool will not wear it down in any meaningful way. Nothing is more important in your life than your own health and well being. Replacing the unhealthy choice of traditional spaghetti with raw zucchini noodles will be one major step in achieving the healthiest diet possible while still retaining all the nostalgic memories you have come to associate with food while growing up. Flavor of the dishes will improve tremendously, and you may even save money purchasing and growing zucchini versus buying pasta noodles at the store. Overall, I give the Tri-blade Vegetable Slicer 5/5 stars.
